Year of Completion: 2010
General Contractor: Tower One Construction
The city of Arvada engaged Kenney Architects to design a contemporary concession and restroom facility for Stenger Park. Primary elements including the sloped “scissor” roofs, a large sweeping canopy, and masonry columns, strengthen the connection between the street and primary building. Translucent polycarbonate below the sloping roofline formed a sub-layer by introducing natural light into the building and also creating a nighttime glow when illuminated.
Siting was carefully determined by taking advantage of existing park thoroughfares. The shade patio is deliberately located to the southwest to take advantage of natural lighting and in doing so an informal plaza is created between the new building and existing adjacent play area. Circular elements of the existing play area were also incorporated into the project through the curving concrete slab and shade structure.
